Do good and evil really exist?
Date: 4/27/2019 1:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Behavioral Science
Presenter: Doyle Slack
Synopsis: In religion, ethics, and philosophy, the concept of "good and evil" is a dichotomy which appears to be universal. Every language has a word expressing good in the sense of "having the right or desirable quality" and bad in the sense "undesirable." But who decides what is “good” and what is “evil?” A requirement of becoming a Freemason is that one is upright - having a strong moral compass. We will discuss differing viewpoints of whether “good” and “evil” truly exist and how they relate to the concept of morality.

Is a belief in reincarnation beneficial or detrimental?
Date: 5/25/2019 1:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Theology
Presenter: Sandy McKeown
Synopsis: Reincarnation is Latin in foundation and translates to "to take on the flesh again." Leaving one life and go into another; for the sole purpose of soul development and spiritual growth. The soul may take the form of human, animal, or plant depending on the moral quality of the previous life's actions. This doctrine is a central tenet of the Indian and Greek religions. Sogyal Rinpoche (a Tibetan lama) explains: "There would be no chance at all of getting to know death if it happened only once. Every time I hear the rush of a mountain stream, or the waves crashing on the shore, or my own heartbeat, I hear the sound of impermanence. These changes, these small deaths, are our living links with death prompting us to let go of all things we cling to." Join us as the group explores reincarnation from a traditional, modern and Freemason's perspective.

Utilizing one of the greatest classics, Dante's Inferno, as an allegorical springboard, we will explore the attributes of hell from a Masonic perspective and ultimately for our own selves.

Is health hacking the future of western medicine?
Date: 7/27/2019 1:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Natural Science
Presenter: Sandy McKeown
Synopsis: Health hacking is the practice of using science, biology, and/or self-experimentation to take control of your health, mind and life. The health system in our country has been lacking in many ways for years. Healthcare for everyone has been a lost cause that will never be found. Doctors are overworked and controlled by corporations larger than themselves. The monthly premium of healthcare, the cost of prescriptions, doctor visits and exams extend beyond the limits of most. Many people are taking up the quest for increased health and longevity by applying the methods of health hacking. What will this mean for the future of healthcare? Is it ludicrous or sound judgment? How can this possibly relate to Freemasonry?
