Does Humanity Require Religion?
Date: 7/20/2019 3:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: Theology
Presenter: Katie Cumsille
Synopsis: It is often asked if Freemasonry is a religion. The answer, if well thought out, is not an easy one to give. Religion is complicated, not only in its ideology but in its practice. This is because Religion is a difficult to discuss. It is barred from most polite conversations and asked about only after a level of comfortability is felt. Why is this? Religion, in all its several philosophies, has had a bloodied history, but this does not negate its power nor its importance of the ideology that rests behind the practice. There are those who dream of a future where religion is absent, believing the Marxist comment that its is the opium of the masses. There are others who seek to bring the world under one great religion, fearing that without the governance man will destroy himself. Independent on how one feels about Religion it seems that it has always been a part of our history, no matter the age. But will Humanity require religion in the future?

What does it mean to Grok or Understand in Fullness?
Date: 10/19/2019 3:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: Behavioral Science
Presenter: Chris Osborn
Synopsis: Robert Heinlein’s book Stranger in Strange Land was highly controversial for its time. In many ways, however it introduced a concept of "Grok" which can be defined in several ways including “to drink,” “to understand in fullness,” “to understand intuitively or by empathy, to establish rapport with,” and “to empathize or communicate sympathetically (with); also, to experience enjoyment.” This term has been largely accepted in several communities to describe concepts that are difficult to explain in words. Yet, how can we apply this concept to our own lives and to Freemasonry in particular? Is this the same as Divine Knowledge?
