Synopsis: Rhetoric is the art and science of persuasion between humans. When practiced well, it can sway the course of history, and, alternately bring upon painful death. Is there hidden symbolism with the number 12 associated with “The Last Supper” painting by Leonardo Da Vinci?
Date: 4/6/2019 10:00:00 AM
Topic of Study: Formal Science
Presenter: Maria Sattui
Synopsis: Freemasons use numbers as important symbols. Many speculate that there is numeric symbolism in the “Last Supper” painting by Leonardo Da Vinci. For example, the 12 apostles depicted in the painting might be representative of a deeper meaning than simply 12 individual people. We will explore this symbology in our meeting, to get a deeper understanding for what the painting might be trying to represent.

Are we alone?
Date: 5/4/2019 10:00:00 AM
Topic of Study: History
Presenter: Evonne Paskow
Synopsis: Many people who believe we are not alone in the universe also believe we have had help in our path in evolution. The concept of “non-interference”, meaning that these beings cannot interfere with human’s “free will” would account for their inconspicuousness in our world. Therefore some say they have worked “behind the scenes” over the years to help mankind advance. From the “culture bringer” to “putting new ideas into the atmosphere” so people can pick up on it, from even “us” being “them” ourselves, we will share some interesting ideas on this topic. Freemasonry encourages us to seek out the truth that often is not obvious to us, even when it’s right in front of us.

Are we living in The Matrix?
Date: 6/1/2019 10:00:00 AM
Topic of Study: Literature
Presenter: Kevin Watson
Synopsis: The Wachowski’s 1999 movie, “The Matrix”, was set in a future time in which humans were unknowingly living in a computer programmed reality, called “The Matrix”. Freemasonry makes extensive usage of allegory as does this film. We will examine some of that symbolism and discuss its implications for the present day. Attendees should make certain to watch the movie at some point prior to the day of the discussion.

Is Saturn a friend or foe to humanity?
Date: 10/5/2019 10:00:00 AM
Topic of Study: Esotericism
Presenter: Kathy Courtney
Synopsis: Saturn, a seemingly dreaded archetype of time wasted, aging, destruction and death. Why does Saturn have such a bad reputation? In ancient times, Saturn was associated with the god of agriculture and time both of youth and aged wisdom. Today, science has interestingly discovered that Saturn actually radiates more energy than our own sun. Modern philosophy and esoteric groups such as Universal Co-masonry find Saturn influences such as labor and self-discipline are quite necessary for human physical and spiritual growth and actually prefer its influence over less exacting archetypes. Is there anything keeping you from embracing the essence of Saturn?

Can the average person achieve true happiness?
Date: 11/2/2019 10:00:00 AM
Topic of Study: Behavioral Science
Presenter: Evonne Paskow
Synopsis: In 1776, our founding fathers thought it important enough to write in our Declaration of Independence that each of us have the “…right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Obviously they didn’t define “happiness” because the term can mean so many different ideas to so many different people. Even the idea of “happiness” has changed throughout the years to people. We will be discussing the different ideas of what we believe “happiness” to be and the ability to achieve this for ourselves in this world we live in. In Free masonry, we are encouraged to explore our inner-selves in order to improve humanity as a whole. By exploring the idea of achieving true happiness, we can look deeper within ourselves.

Is alternative medicine more effective than Western medicine?
Date: 12/7/2019 10:00:00 AM
Topic of Study: Natural Science
Presenter: Kevin Watson
Synopsis: Alternative medicine is a term that describes medical treatments that are used instead of traditional (mainstream) therapies. Some of the techniques commonly classified as alternative are acupuncture, chiropractic medicine, energy therapy, therapeutic touch and herbal medicine. While Co-Masonry does not take an official stance on alternative medicine, it is open to multiple possibilities. We will examine the pros and cons of alternative medicine vis a vis traditional medicine.
