Should museums return artifacts to their country of origin?
Date: 1/26/2019 1:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Art
Presenter: Sandy McKeown
Synopsis: Repatriation is the return of art or cultural heritage to the country of origin or to their heirs. These objects can be sculptures, paintings, monuments, human remains, as examples. It can be argued that artifacts are a part of universal human history and need to be available to the public to disseminate the knowledge of the culture. However, it can also be argued that art taken out of the country as a spoil of war, looting, imperialism, and colonialism is unethical. This type of behavior only perpetuates colonialism. Join in the debate and also learn what a Freemason would do!

Atheist, Agnostic, Deist, Theist : What are you and why?
Date: 2/23/2019 1:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Theology
Presenter: Sandy McKeown
Synopsis: Deism is the belief that while God exists and he created the universe, He has since been a "hands off" being - He is the clockmaker that has no need or want of adoration. He has created the world and it need no longer to concern itself with His presence. Deism, created at the time of the Age of Reason values the mysteries of Science and Nature to explain the world. Much of what the Deist values are also valued by the Atheist - a strong sense of morality, a foundation in science and reason, and no need for organized religion. Perhaps you find yourself under the banner of Theist or Agnostic instead. Freemasons value science, nature and God, concepts which, to either the Atheist or Deist, may seem at odds with each other. We will discuss the similarities and differences between Deism and Atheism particularly but the others in general to determine where you stand in your beliefs today.

Does the Trivium Method provide a path to intellectual freedom?
Date: 3/23/2019 1:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Literature
Presenter: Aksel Suvari
Synopsis: Freedom is a necessary requirement for any candidate for Freemasonry. In the modern age and especially in the West we think of ourselves as inherently free but how independent are our thoughts? Throughout history the Trivium Method of critical thinking has been used by great minds to explore the hidden mysteries of Nature and Science. By examining the Trivium Method and the logical fallacies we will carve a path towards the mental freedom required to pursue these same mysteries and come one step closer to the door of Freemasonry.
