Should certain books be banned from the public?
Date: 12/19/2017 6:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: Literature
Presenter: Isaac Levy
Synopsis: America prides itself on the First Amendment, the freedom of speech. However, the American Library Association receives hundreds of complaints annually for certain books to be banned due to offensive ideas, sexually explicit content, or racial context. Many countries have books banned as well. Should certain books be banned from the public? Does this protect society or oppress society? Would Freemasonry, being an institution that fosters learning, advocate the banning of certain publications from the public?

Does the Bible have hidden or esoteric messages within its text?
Date: 4/17/2018 6:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: Theology
Presenter: Isaac Levy
Synopsis: Writings should at times be taken figuratively rather than literally. Other times we may impose our own beliefs on a piece of text that was meant to be literal. The Bible is one mankind's oldest pieces of literature. Are there hidden messages within it? If so, what are they and what similarities do they share with Freemasonry?

Did Freemasonry Play a Pivotal Role in the Birth of the United States?
Date: 5/15/2018 6:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: History
Presenter: Mark Valkonen
Synopsis: It is known that many of the Founding Fathers of this nation were Freemasons and others, who were not, held close association to them. It is, therefore, no surprise to see the close relationship of the values of the United States and those of Masonry. Thus, one might ask if Freemasonry had a significant role in the formation of the United States? If it is possible that Masonic precepts were integral, one must continue the line of thought and ask, are those precepts at the core of our nations values today?

Is the evolution of language an indication of the evolution of man?
Date: 6/19/2018 6:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: Formal Science
Presenter: Katie Cumsille
Synopsis: How well do you understand your native language? Its intricate and complex nature causes misunderstandings and conflict as well as communicates feelings and emotions. There is no group of people, including Freemasons, that do not exhibit a level of language, whether it be complex or simple. Such variation in language leads one to ask: Is there a connection between an extensive language system and the evolution of its speakers? Join us as we study the foundation of psycholinguistics and see if we can correlate it to Man's evolution, and more especially to our own personal evolution.

Does the Theology of Star Wars Teach us that All Religion is Doomed to Failure?
Date: 8/21/2018 6:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: Theology
Presenter: Chris Osborn
Synopsis: The stories of the Star Wars franchise show us that what appears to be good isn’t always as apparent as it seems and that evil doesn’t really have much to offer, or does it? Perhaps it isn’t as clear cut as we would like it to be. However the ongoing battle between the Jedi and the Sith has some interesting correlations to real life and Freemasonry, and can perhaps help us to understand the purpose of religion and whether or not it will ultimately succeed or fail. May the Force be with you!

Does Art Record Human Experience While Reflecting History?
Date: 9/18/2018 6:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: Art
Presenter: Cristina McNeirney
Synopsis: Art can speak to the human soul, and there is a societal expectation that we find value in its creation even if we cannot see any beauty within the production. The beauty of art may not be necessarily understood in its aesthetic production but more so in its reflection of the human experience. This discussion will explore the question: How can we find the beauty within all art to better understand society and relate this beauty to Freemasonry?

Humanities Neanderthal DNA: Irrelevant Information or Impactful Science?
Date: 10/16/2018 6:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: Natural Science
Presenter: Elaine Phelen
Synopsis: Neanderthals were once the closest relatives of modern humans. Although the last of the Neanderthals died off approximately 40,000 years ago, scientists now estimate the genomes of certain groups of humans retain between 1.8 and 2.6 percent Neanderthal DNA. A recently published study from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology demonstrates evidence that Neanderthal DNA affects skin tone and hair color, height, sleeping patterns, mood, and smoking status in present-day Europeans. Additional research has shown that the interbreeding between Neanderthals and ancient Humans may have influenced modern risks for depression, heart attacks, obesity, and other health problems. Do the genes of our distant ancestors still affect us today? Epigenetics, or the scientific study of biological mechanisms that can switch genes on and off, demonstrates that diet, sleep patterns, exercise habits, and even social interactions can modify your genetics. Freemasonry gives its members the tools to change their lives through discipline and hard work. Does DNA biologically determine our future, or can we change our destiny?

Does Freemasonry have its own philosophy?
Date: 11/20/2018 6:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: Philosophy
Presenter: Matias Cumsille
Synopsis: Throughout the ages, people have developed systems of philosophy for the improvement of Mankind - to seek the Truth behind reality. Freemasonry, being a system also designed for the improvement of mankind and to seek Truth, therefore must possess a specific philosophy as well. However, there is no central authority figure in Masonry to regulate its ideas, so how are we to determine its philosophy? We will explore a myriad of Masonic writers in an attempt to uncover the core of Masonic Teachings.

Is Rebelliousness a Sign of Intelligence?
Date: 12/18/2018 6:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: Behavioral Science
Presenter: Isaac Levy
Synopsis: Throughout our lives we are told to follow orders. Generally speaking, to “rock the boat” is viewed as a bad thing. Obedience is the backbone of any organization. However, some of historys greatest heroes have been branded as rebels, including the founding fathers of this nation. Is there a correlation between intelligence and rebelliousness and how does it fit within the construct of Freemasonry?
