What makes Homo Sapiens so special?
Date: 2/28/2019 7:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Philosophy
Presenter: Willis Wan
Synopsis: Is human consciousness or freewill merely the result of an "organic algorithm"? If the answer is yes, then it's possible that future development of AI technology and learning will hack homo sapiens and dominate the freewill. During this discusion we will take a look at some writings of Yuvai Noah Harari and the theories that he has proposed on the development of mankind.

"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest ... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
